[To the RPer asking about why Orgrimmar did not end up similar to Stormwind, perhaps I can help shed a little light on the question.]

A large portion of this is likely due to population statistics. According to WoWAnalytica, Moonguard has an overall population of 7.65% Horde. According to WoWRealmPopulation, there are 1248 Horde characters. Double than what WoWAnalytica suggests (approximately 16% of the realm), but still less than a fifth of the Alliance population. According to WoWProgress, you are sitting at 1085 Horde, or roughly 15% of the population. So already there is a population limit to visibility.

Once you break into race specifics, it gets worse. The vast majority of Horde players in 2024 are Blood Elves. On Moonguard they make up approximately 2.4% of the population according to WoWAnalytica. With Vulpera coming second at 2.14%. The third is a Orcs and Undead at a measly 0.47%. And it only scales downwards from there. Trolls, Zandalari, and Tauren maintain low 0.4%, Nightborne down at 0.23% and every other Horde race below 0.17%. The races most likely to inhabit Org, would classically be Trolls, Orcs, Goblins and potentially Undead, but there just aren't that many. Each Horde race's capital is also considerably more viable for their personal rp. Tauren have far more reason to be involved in Highmountain or Mulgore, than they do Org. Trolls the same with Zuldazar or Darkspear Isle (or potentially the use of outdoor raid zones). Goblins have Ratchet, Gadgetzan, and Booty Bay. Undead have what Brill (Can't really say as I don't play Undead)? As such the limited amount of Horde further segments itself. This is especially evident when you take a trip to Silvermoon, which is where you will see some MG Horde RP. With the inclusion of Void Elves, many of the Blood Elves also hopped to Alliance - which further drives traffic to Stormwind.

Then you can add the city planning element - lack of interactables, poorly designed taverns, bad overall layout that feels segmented, lack of "comfy" atmosphere. The characteristic Horde appeal in aesthetics contributes poorly to a cozy walk up scenario. Neutral cities don't really help this. There is little reason for Horde to go to Dalaran, given the Kirin Tor's arguable Alliance leaning (and even past events there).

You also have the element of polarization. Sylvanus was a major dividing factor amongst Horde players. Similar can be said of Garrosh or the introduction of Vulpera. In each case, it further divided the already splintered Horde.

As a result, the Horde RP scene is more attributed to a loose confederation of guilds and their hotspots. But take this all with a grain of salt, whilst I may RP Horde, I am more of a content player at heart.

How to optimize your tabletop character with minimal headache

This is a tool for building and equipping ttrpg-characters. It might be helpful for people like me who struggle with weighing options intuitively and easily start to feel like they accidentally built their character to be less interesting or effective than other characters at the table.

1. decide on the category you want to comb through

It can be skills to put points into, gear, feats/talent options, whatever. For my example I picked magical items.

2. make a table

First column: name of The Thing (e.g. weapon, item, skill...). Write down all of the instances of The Thing that you want to compare.

Second column: joy - this will denote how much joy it sparks in your heart to have/be able to use The Thing, without taking into consideration how sensible it would be.

Third column: RP - this will denote how well The Thing fits your character concept, be it from an aesthetic point of view, because it fits into your character's backstory, whatever.

Fourth column: practical - this will represent how often you assume you will be able to use The Thing in-game.

Fifth column: effective - this will represent whether this is the best way to achieve whatever The Thing is good for or whether there's better options.

Sixth column: score - this one calculates the end result.

The table then might look something like this:

Now score each item in each category (joy, RP, practical, effective) from 1-3

1 = not really / no

2 = okay/ it's alright / so-so

3 = yeah!

e.g. I'm playing an orc paladin and I'm checking which of the items I should get for her. She grew up in the city and she aspires to be a knight in shining armor.

Item: Lighter (a magical stone that can make fire).

Doesn't really spark joy, so that's a 1.

Fits her character concept so-so, since she would have had little reason to get one before the adventure starts and she's not very outdoorsy, that's a 2.

Pretty practical, I can imagine it becoming relevant in almost any adventure, so that's a 3.

Finally it's not very effective, because in the setting we're playing, we have many choices for how to make a fire and, most importantly, we'll have an elemental mage in our group, you can snap a fire into existence anytime he likes, so that's a 1 again.

Count it all together and the score comes up to 7/12.

I repeat the scoring until the table looks like this:

Which means that from all the options listed, I would be best advised to get a large light quartz, followed by the lighter.

The closer to 12, the higher in priority it is, the closer to 3, the more easily I can discount bothering to get it at all.

4. notes and acknowledgements

What I like about this system is that it allows me to split a big and hard decision into many small and easy ones, so if I score diligently, I'll arrive at a sensible result that's not just min-maxed, but also takes rule of cool and roleplaying into account.

It might also help with "character build envy" because you didn't overlook any options and made sure to consider everything to the best of your ability. So I hope it's helpful to someone else out there.

If you use excel or libre office calc, you can use a formula to automatically calculate the score, which would be

=SUM([first cell with a number]:[last cell with a number])

e.g.

=SUM(B2:E2)

which would automatically add together every number from B2 to E2. Alternatively you can just select the cells and it should show you the result in the down right corner.

I just wanted to say thank you for your blog. Looking through it made me recall how much fun I had playing AJ back in 2010-12 as a kid so I hopped back on it for the first time in basically a decade to run through it again (albeit on the 3D mobile version, my laptop is currently bonked.) Gonna be real with you, I cried when I heard the den music. It brought back memories of me in fifth grade coming home from school and playing on the family laptop before my dad came home from work.

I remade my very first animal, a tiger named Victory Fierywinner, and sat her on the cliff at Mt Shiveer. I used to sit there and wait, occasionally spouting edgy nonsense, until someone approached... then I'd start elemental power RPs with them lmao. Fun times!

I hope the silly aminal game lives forever. I think that would be ideal.

To the Moon and Back is something I'm currently working on and very excited about. It's a multichapter Final Fantasy 7 fic, Cloud/Zack, omegaverse, rated E etc.

Since it's my very first FF7 fic as well as my first published omegaverse fic ever, I was initially quite nervous to even start writing it let alone publish it. It has three published chapters on ao3, all of which have gotten positive feedback so far (and subs, I see ya <3), which obviously inspires me a lot. I'm already having lots of ideas for future chapters and also few good ideas how I'm going to end it, something which doesn't always happen to me (I just go with the flow, most of time). The story also has some non-traditional omegaverse elements because well, omegas and alphas don't always have to be so stereotypical, I think, and... truthfully... I just had a mighty craving for some sloppy bottom/omega!Zack the fandom is feeding me absolute crumbs in that sense and seems to think cloud's dick is just a pretty accessory XD I'm feeling like I can actually make my own rules here and it feels pretty damn good right now.

A Touch of Cinnamon, Gallahir/Witcher. Roommates, Friends to Lovers, multichapter, rated E. I answered in another tag game already why this story was such a passion project for me last autumn, but yeah. It was inspired by OneofWeb's Buttercup Tattoo series (some really nice works there <3), and I genuinely enjoyed writing and planning it. Like I also mentioned before, it's still a work in progress but never say never. :D

How this story originally got its inspiration, well... once upon a time I watched a Japanese gay porn movie with a plot (gasp) and uhh, I might've expanded on that a little bit. *hides* Sadly the story only has one chapter that's been lying in wait for almost two years now, but... I am still thinking about it sometimes. I really liked the original idea (:P) and I still like the following story idea that I came up with, so hmm. Maybe if I get inspired to write something for this ship again, I could be tempted to continue this.

As for other two... I used to write plenty of rps bandfic back in the day and that one AU one-shot (or was it two-shot? anyway) I wrote somewhere around late 2008 I think, got a little bit smutty, a little bit 'problematic' as well, and man... what can I say, I still like that one. A lot, actually. The ship I wrote that fic for wasn't super popular in that band either but didn't matter to me.

And the fifth? One of my future works perhaps? :D

When the war ended, the world began patching itself back together. The Ministry reshaped slowly under Kingsley Shacklebolt--and Interim was dropped quickly from his title as Minister--and once there was some semblance of order again....there were trials.

It was easy enough dealing with it when it was unrepentant Death Eaters. This time around, the Wizengamot was more diligent about thorough interrogation, using Veritaserum, Legilimency, and more to be sure of the truth with every conviction, pardon, and merciful shortened sentence applied. One by one, the survivors of Voldemort’s armor faced Azkaban or alternate options such as house arrest...and on that list, both of the Malfoy men wound up included.

Draco had figured he’d be tossed in a hole and forgotten. Spending a year trapped at the Manor, watching by newsfeed as the magical world rebuilt itself, was far kinder than he believed he deserved.

The day his sentence was up, and an Auror came to remove the Trace they’d applied, Draco was packed, and he left the Manor behind for good. Lucius argued this, but Narcissa hushed her husband, seeing he son off with a kiss as he turned his back on the darkness that he now associated with his surname and his childhood home.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t really easy to move on when the world took one look at you and turned up their noses, clearly in disagreement with a lighter sentence. Draco fleetingly debating seeking a career, but that rapidly proved futile; his interest was in potions and healing, and his efforts to contact known apothecaries, St. Mungo’s, and then even more remote wizarding clinics and medical centers led to ghosting. No one even had the decency to tell him to his face that his name was ruined.

Travel it would be, then. Per the terms of his completed house arrest, Draco went to the Ministry to apply for permits to go abroad...and here, too, he found himself being tangled in red tape and paperwork and constant circles. Nobody would even outright tell him that they did not wish to help him.

“Fucking hell,” he growled, crumpling up the parchment with his fifth consecutive, We appreciate your application. Please see below the elements of your documentation that must be updated and re-submitted in order for the Department of International Magical Travel to consider granting your permissions... “Pricks.”

He dropped it in the trash bin of the Ministry guest entrance lobby, sighing and heading for the exit. Pulling his coat tighter around himself, Draco turned up his collar, face ducked to avoid catching any looks should he be recognized. It was mid-afternoon still, but pure frustration turned his steps towards the nearest wizarding neighborhood that he knew of--not Diagon Alley, too crowded, but one where he knew he could be semi-welcomed. Theo ran a little pub there, now, and was always willing to lend an ear to Draco’s post-war exhaustion.

5. Is there something they want to be known for?

Ugh, this is SUCH a question on Athren's mind right now. Does he want to be known as one of the adventurers who returned Dagult Neverember's embezzled hoard to the people of Waterdeep? Or does he want to be known Athren: humble Trollskull Tavern co-owner who dresses extraordinarily well due to mysterious means, and also paid for his parents' retirement via mysterious means?

(I think this adventure has truly lit a fire in him and he's not going to be willing to give up the adventuring life for humble Waterdhavian anonymity after this, tbh. He's just getting started.)

17. They're crying--what did it take to make them cry?

Athren's not super expressive when it comes to sincere or closely-held emotion. I think he has a really high crying threshold, especially crying from sadness. Short of the death of a parent or a party member, I'm not sure what could make him cry.

51. What element of their backstory are you proudest of?

Funnily enough, I think it's not even something I came up with on my own, it's something I co-created with my DM Rae and was mostly driven by their idea! It's the contrast between Athren and his older brother Adinar, who stayed behind in the Underdark after Athren and his parents betrayed the noble house they worked for and had to flee to the surface. I wrote Adinar into Athren's story as an incredibly accomplished battle master fighter who Athren looked up to/was jealous of, but Rae took him in a very poignant direction and had him jealous of Athren's close relationship with their parents and of Athren's ability to forge his own destiny. I truly never expected Adinar to appear on-screen in our adventure and Rae had him show up in a very creative way. These two brothers getting to talk after years apart was such an incredible RP experience.

59. What's an element of their philosophy that you disagree with?

He's so selfish!! He is truly the kind of guy who picks all the "what's in it for me" dialogue tree options. It annoys me to RP him sometimes. I wonder, "Why did I make you like this?" I am fundamentally pro-social in a way he is not.

Well...lots has happened.

Her Highness and I went deep below Hyrule Castle on an expedition to unearth the truth behind the Great Calamity's constant return despite being sealed away, and...I never knew it would come to everything that happened.

MOD WARNING: TOTK SPOILERS

After months of wandering Hyrule, the skies above, and the depths below...things are beginning to look somewhat normal again. To an extent,, of course. It's...rather difficult to view the woman for whom you've developed affection as "normal" after she not only stayed within a castle for a century to hold back a primal demon, but also accidentally traveled back in time and eventually became an immortal dragon to repair the legendary sword you wield.

Luckily for me (and for Her Highness), she is back to normal. Zelda is no longer the Light Dragon. I recall that...upon the revelation that she was...I...I broke. I realized that I might never be able to see her again, even if the Demon King was defeated at my hand. I told myself that it didn't matter, as long as Hyrule was safe...but it would never be the same without Zelda.

And all of that is just what happened between myself and the princess. I have yet to mention the fact that four of my best friends (one of whom is actually the son of one of my other friends) are now elemental sages who swore an oath to fight alongside me. There is also a fifth sage, who happens to be dead, but her soul inhabited the body of a Zonai construct up until the Demon King's defeat, after which she moved on to the afterlife.

And that isn't even half of it! I saw, did, and experienced so much on my journey. Reuniting the Stable Trotters, bombing Bokoblin camps in Hyrule Field with a cannon-armed flying machine, the wedding of my friend Sidon and his childhood love, Yona...well, I would be going on and on for years if I listed everything that happened here.

1- How many works do you have on AO3?

Currently, only three. One drabble and two actual fics. (One sadly left behind BUT I do intend to work on it again)

2- What's your total AO3 wordcount?

About 9,527 based on current fics. Actually a bit lower than I thought it would be, I should fix that.

3- What fandoms do you write for?

Currently it's Cult of the Lamb and Splatoon! Specifically bouncing off Splatoon 2 and into 3. I don't have a lot of things I'm a big fan of but maybe that will change in the near future! I'm getting into more games so I might pick up another.

4- What are your top five fics by Kudos?

Also pleading the fifth only because I'm no longer in the fandom for most of the fics sadly

5- Do you respond to comments?

I would like to more, yes! I don't get a lot of comments so it's hard to do, but if I get more I'd really like to!

6- What fic have you written with the angtiest ending?

A fic I haven't posted before actually. It's more of an on-going/living story so to speak. A story of trauma, pain, trying to make up for said inflicted trauma, coming to terms with never being forgiven, and knowing this character has actively fucked up that life beyond repair. It's real nice to have around for pain~

7- what fic have you written with the happiest ending?

Currently have plans for both my CoTL fic Death's Forbidden Love and my Splat fic Why Do I Hate You So? (Soon to be renamed) to both get happy endings! Of course there is angst along the way. What can I say? I think they deserve to be happy

8- Do you get hate on fics?

Dunno, never had someone actively tell me before :V

9- Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I need you to understand that is like the majority of my personal writing. I want to estimate a good like.... 80-90% of personal writing, be it RP or for myself, is either primarily smut or has some element of it sprinkled in.

As for what kind? Yeah, you'll have to kill me to get that answer. My main page is SFW but if you know me, You Know.

10- Do you write crossovers?

Not any more, but I used to all the time! Back when I was on Wattpad I want to say like 5/7 fics were all crossovers of fandoms and oc/canon stuff. It was a lot of fun. I think my most popular ever was a goofy Hetalia/Aliens fic I made. Don't ask me where I got the idea, I couldn't tell you.

11- Have you had a fic stolen?

ACTUALLY YES! Still pisses me off, but a fandom friend stole one of my drabbles and posted it to her account. I think it's dead now and you can't find it any longer but it did happen!

It was a small friend group and I was like- in middle school. I've done my wailing about it.

12- Have you had a fic translated?

Nope, but it would be nice if someone did! If they like it enough to translate it, I'd be honored!

13- Have you co-written a fic?

Sadly, no. Unless you count RP stuff turning into OC lore, then maybe. But in literal terms? Nah.

14- What's your all time favorite ship?

Oh this one made me think.

I'm gonna have to go with 3/8 from Splatoon simply because of my own ship pair of them. I adore these two a lot and all the growing they've done as characters together.

15- What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My personal Paracosm's story tbh. There's no set storyline for the world and it just exists in the back of my head like a DND campaign. I want to do it justice one day and turn it into an actual story and REALLY REALLY flesh it all out.

16- What are your writing strengths?

I'm often told that my characters feel like real characters. Not in like, they're made by a professional, but more so in the way they feel like they've had solid personalities. My personal favorite compliment I got was from a teacher in my high school. He'd commented on my lead at the time and how, despite my clunky writing skills, she felt like a living breathing person he was being told all about. Like a long lost friend.

I think this rings most true in my current writings of my version of Narinder. I've gotten a LOT of compliments about him and it makes me excited to write more! Hopefully if I can polish my skills again my whole cast will feel this way!

17 – What are your writing weaknesses?

Pacing. By god is my pacing TRASH. I'm getting some more work on this with my friend's help and just getting back into the flow of writing again. I'm hoping to reawaken my middle and high school self cuz that bitch could bang out 3,000 words a day for fics.

18 – Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Mixed. An actual language? I don't trust my translation skills to be that solid. Small phrases I can do but definitely not full on conversations.

A language I made myself and am currently attempting to flesh out more? Oh you bet your sweet bottom dollar I'm writing whole SCENES in that shit!

19 – First fandom you wrote for?

Funnily enough, Sonic. That's where a lot of my creation started as a kid and where my Paracosm kind of spawned from. Despite having never really written a fic for it before, I consider my first "comic" to be that fanfic. AKA 10yo Spider was having a blast writing their characters being besties with the canon crew -fingerguns-

20 – Favorite fic you've written?

Gonna be Death's Forbidden Love. It's my most ambitious writing project in years and has reignited a part of my love for just making stuff. Plot still isn't solid but I really enjoy the things I have planned and I hope to share more of this silly spinoff with everyone!
